The Death of the Unicorn tapestry is a detail from the sixth tapestry in the series of seven of The Hunt for the Unicorn tapestries. It is also known as The Unicorn is Killed and Brought to the Castle - we see the unicorn twice: being killed and then slung on a horse. The tapestry is full of allegorical details surrounding the death of Christ. This unicorn tapestry "Death of the Unicorn" is a detail of the famous death of the unicorn described in the legends of the hunt of the unicorn. Here we see a parade of people escorting the unicorn that will be killed and brought to the castle. This jacquard wall decor tapestry, Death of the Unicorn, plunges you into a medieval world with the return of the unicorn hunting. The slain unicorn is brought to the lady on horseback, by hunters with their dogs. This piece represents a detail from the sixth tapestry in the series of seven called The Hunt for the Unicorn dating from 1495-1505. And indeed, in the sixth tapestry two separate scenes are depicted — the brutal killing of the unicorn (in the upper left-hand corner) and the transportation of the dead unicorn on a horse's back (front and center).

The tapestries depict the Unicorn being killed, and then miraculously in the final tapestry it is alive again. It sits surrounded by pomegranates, which represent blood, and it is in captivity, it is chained and no longer free. The sixth tapestry is known as The Unicorn is Killed and Brought to the Castle. The unicorn, which has been the central figure in the last few tapestries, is pushed to the edge a little. In the top left corner of the tapestry, the slaughter of the unicorn is shown. The seven individual hangings known as "The Unicorn Tapestries," are among the most beautiful and complex works of art from the late Middle Ages that survive.
